Groups & invite links

Sort your students into classes and let them join themselves with a shareable link - all from the Students area.

Groups

A group is a class or set of students within your school - for example “Year 7 Art” or “R070 Cohort B”. Each student belongs to at most one group.

  • On the Students page, open Manage groups to create, rename or delete groups.
  • Click a group chip to filter the student list down to that group.
  • Set a student's group when you Add them, or later with Edit on their row.
  • Deleting a group doesn't delete its students - they simply become ungrouped and keep their accounts and projects.

Bulk actions

Each student in the list has a checkbox. Tick a few (or use Select all) and a bar appears to act on the whole selection at once:

  • Move to group - reassign every selected student to a group (or to no group).
  • Delete - remove the selected students (after a confirmation). This frees their seats.

Tip

Groups make bulk actions easy: on the Extras page you can grant extra project space to everyone in a group at once.

Invite links

Instead of typing in every student, you can share an invite link (of the form ar.works/join/<code>). A student opens the link, chooses their own name, email and password, and is added straight to your school - and to the invite's group, if you set one - as long as a seat is free.

  1. On the Students page, open Invite links and click New invite link.
  2. Optionally choose a group, add a label (so you recognise it), and set an expiry in days.
  3. Copy link and share it with your class (email, your VLE, a QR code - whatever suits).

Each invite shows how many students have joined through it. You can:

  • Revoke a link to stop new sign-ups (and Enable it again later),
  • Delete a link entirely.

Heads up

Students can only join while your school has a free seat. If a link says the class is full, buy more seats on the Extras page and the link works again. An expired or revoked link stops working immediately.
