This policy explains what AR Works (ar.works, operated by Qode LTD, company number 17259547) stores in your browser and why. The short version: we use one strictly-necessary cookie to keep you signed in and a few device-only preferences, and - only if you opt in - Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. We never show ads or use advertising cookies, and analytics stays off unless you choose to allow it.
| Cookie | Purpose | Type | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
arworks_rt | Keeps you signed in between visits (a refresh token). Set only after you sign in or register. It is httpOnly (JavaScript cannot read it) and sent only to our API. | Strictly necessary | 30 days |
_ga, _ga_EXDKPJVGQE | Set by Google Analytics to tell visits apart and measure how the site is used. Set only if you opt in to analytics in the cookie banner - never for signed-in student accounts, and never on the AR viewer. See section 2. | Analytics (optional) | Up to 2 years |
The sign-in cookie is the only cookie we set by default - if you never sign in and never opt in to analytics, we set no cookies at all.
With your consent, AR Works uses Google Analytics 4 (provided by Google) to understand how visitors and signed-in users move through the site, so we can improve it. It is optional and off by default - it only loads after you choose "Accept all" in the cookie banner. If you don't opt in, Google Analytics is never loaded and sets no cookies.
Google processes this data on our behalf and may store it outside the UK/EEA under appropriate safeguards. See Google's Privacy Policy and our own Privacy Policy.
Separately from cookies, we also produce internal usage statistics on our own servers from account data we already hold (see the Privacy Policy). That involves no cookies, no third parties, and no AI training - we mention it here only for completeness.
We also keep a few preferences in your browser's local storage. These stay on your device and are never sent to our servers:
| Key | Purpose |
|---|---|
arworks-theme | Your light/dark theme choice inside the app. |
arworks.editor.* | Editor workspace preferences: panel sizes and collapsed state, grid and target-ghost toggles, asset-folder collapse state, and per-project "hidden while editing" flags. |
arworks-cookie-consent | Remembers the choice you made in the cookie banner. |
The public AR viewer page (where you point your phone at a target image) sets no cookies and no local storage. It loads its open-source AR libraries from the jsDelivr CDN, which - like any web server - receives standard request data (your IP address and browser details) when serving those files. Your camera is processed entirely on your device and never recorded or uploaded - see the Privacy Policy.
When you subscribe to a paid plan you are redirected to a secure checkout page hosted by Stripe on its own domain. Stripe sets its own cookies there (for example for fraud prevention and session handling) under Stripe's cookie policy. The AR Works site itself does not load Stripe scripts or set Stripe cookies.
The cookie banner gives you three choices: Accept all (the essential cookie plus Google Analytics), Essential only (the sign-in cookie, no analytics), or Reject all. Because the sign-in cookie is strictly necessary, the site cannot be used without it - rejecting it therefore blocks the site until you accept. Analytics is never required. You can revisit your choice any time via Cookie settings in the footer, and you can also clear or block cookies in your browser settings; deleting arworks_rt simply signs you out.
If we ever add new cookies or storage, we will update this page (and, where consent is required, ask for it first). Questions: privacy@ar.works. See also our Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions.
