From 1 December, inactive projects on Free accounts will be deleted after 30 days

2 min read

From 1 December 2026, we're going to start deleting projects on Free accounts that haven't been edited for 30 days.

This only applies to Free accounts. If you're on Pro or Education, your projects stay put no matter how long you leave them, and that includes student accounts set up by a school.

What counts

A project is only deleted when both of these are true:

  • it belongs to a Free account, and
  • nobody has edited it in the last 30 days.

Any change you save resets the 30 days, even a small one. Each project card on your dashboard shows the date it was last updated, so you can see where things stand.

Viewing a project doesn't count as editing it. If a Free project is published and people are still scanning it, but nobody has changed it in 30 days, it will be deleted and its link and QR code will stop working.

Why we're doing this

The number of people using AR Works has grown massively since launch. That's brilliant, but every new account adds to the storage we pay for each month, and a lot of Free projects get made, tried once and never opened again. Clearing out the ones nobody is working on is how we keep the Free plan free while we keep growing.

Keeping your work

If there's a Free project you want to hang on to, the simplest thing is to open it and make a change before the 30 days are up.

You can also keep a copy. Click Details on the project card and then Export .works to download the whole project as a single file, which you can import again whenever you need it.

Or move to Pro. Projects on Pro accounts are never deleted for inactivity.

Nothing changes before 1 December, so there's a month to sort out anything you care about. If you have any questions, send us a message from Support and we'll help.
